My Story
Crystal G. Melton, a native of Hammond, IN, is a wife, a dedicated mother of 4 children, and servant leader in the community. Crystal exemplifies a blend of personal dedication and public service. As the partner of Mayor Eddie Melton, she actively supports the mission to make Gary, IN a competitive and appealing city for families to call home. Crystal has served as the President and 2nd Vice President of the Indiana State Assembly Club and currently serves as the Treasurer of Hoosier Women Forward, a leadership program dedicated to empowering Democratic women to engage in politics and community leadership. Her efforts reflect a commitment to nurturing community ties, empowering women all while balancing family and professional responsibilities. As the First Lady of the city, she is passionately spearheading a literacy initiative, striving to unlock opportunities, foster understanding, and empower every resident. She firmly believes that literacy is not just a skill, but a fundamental right that paves the way toward a more enlightened and prosperous future for everyone.
